W

ith non-active Jakarta governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama currently detained at the National Police’s Mobile Brigade detention center in Depok, West Java, a number of flower boards and supporters now enliven the area.

The flower boards convey reassuring messages, such as “Dear Pak Ahok, God guards you in joy and sorrow. Keep shining bright for Him.” Tjahaja Purnama in Ahok’s name literally means moonlight.

As the number of flower boards sent to the detention center grew, a police officer told the senders to not put them in front of the facility as they could cause traffic congestion, kompas.com reported.

People previously sent thousands of flower boards to City Hall in Central Jakarta and to the National Police headquarters in South Jakarta in an expression of gratitude for the service of Ahok and his Deputy Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat, who lost the recent gubernatorial election to Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno.

The number of flower boards sent to City Hall since late April reached more than 5,000, with some having to be placed in the National Monument (Monas) area. (vny)
