N

on-active Jakarta governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama is treated just like the other inmates at National Police’s Mobile Brigade (Brimob) detention center in Kelapa Dua, Depok, without any special facilities, an official said.

Head department of operation of Brimob Sr. Comr. Waris Agono said that Ahok’s cell was a 2 x 3 meter room, the ordinary size for an inmate.

“Ahok’s room is on the first floor, for one person only and without a mattress, only a sleeping pad, and with bathroom inside the room,” Waris said as quoted by kompas.com on Thursday.

Waris brushed off rumors, which said that Ahok was in the same room as the Muslim People's Forum (FUI) secretary-general Al-Khaththath who was arrested for alleged treason hours before a rally that demanded the dismissal of Ahok in late March.

He said that Ahok was in good health.

“He’s healthy because we do medical check-ups everyday,” he said.

On Tuesday, the North Jakarta District Court sentenced Ahok to two years in prison for blasphemy.

On the following day, his supporters held candlelight vigils and delivered speeches in several areas across the country. (cal)
