ertamina’s Marketing Operation Region (MOR) VI Kalimantan Office has said it is preparing to increase the supply of avtur for airports in its working area. Ten percent of the additional supply will be directed to Sepinggan Airport in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan.

“The supply increase is part of preparations to add flight schedules for holiday travelers during the upcoming Ramadhan and Idul Fitri festivities,” Pertamina Kalimantan spokesperson Alicia Irzanova said in Balikpapan Thursday.

With an additional 10 percent supply, avtur consumption at Sepinggan Airport will amount to 386 kiloliters per day. At the airport, Pertamina operates an aircraft fuel filling station that can serve 88 regular commercial and chartered flights from 32 airline companies every day.

“This includes military flights conducted by the Indonesian Air Force,” said Irzanova.

The additional avtur stock is being prepared in case other airports in Kalimantan, such as Syamsuddin Noor in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, or Supadio in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, need more fuel.

Ramadhan will fall on May 27. Muslims who want to celebrate Idul Fitri in their home towns will expand the consumption of fuel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

At Sepinggan Airport, commercial airlines such as Garuda Indonesia and Lion Air usually open up two additional flights for certain routes during the holiday season.

For this year’s Ramadhan and Idul Fitri, Irzanova said Pertamina Kalimantan would expand fuel and LPG supply by 7 percent and 6 percent, respectively. (ebf)
