Jokowi described Grybauskaitė’s visit as historic, because it was the first encounter between the Presidents of Indonesia and Lithuania since the two countries established diplomatic relations 24 years ago.
“We use this historic momentum to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries. This is also the first time for a Lithuanian president to visit Indonesia,” Jokowi told a joint press conference with his Lithuanian counterpart after the meeting at the State Palace.
During the meeting, Jokowi also asked Lithuania to urge the European Union to speed up negotiations on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Indonesia and the EU.
