reative Economy Agency (Bekraf) head Triawan Munaf received on Wednesday a diplomatic medal from South Korea for services in strengthening bilateral ties in the creative industry.

South Korean Ambassador to Indonesia Cho Tai-young presented the Gwanghwa Medal during a ceremony at the South Korean Embassy in Jakarta, where the envoy conveyed in his remarks appreciation to Triawan, according to a statement from the embassy.

The medal, which is the highest honor for foreign citizens given by the Korean government, was awarded to Triawan for services in improving cooperation between Indonesia and Korea in the creative industry.

“Even more, Triawan Munaf as the senior liaison officer has encouraged the realization of cooperation between the two countries in the field of economy and trade, and has helped Korean companies expand to Indonesia,” according to a statement from the embassy.

Triawan was appointed Bekraf head in January 2015 and was also appointed by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo as the senior liaison officer for Korea in November of the same year, with duties that include encouraging South Korean investment into Indonesia.

Jakarta and Seoul established diplomatic relations in 1973 and in 2006 established a strategic partnership. Korea is Indonesia’s fifthlargest trading partner, while the archipelago sits in the 12th spot for the East Asian country, according to the embassy.
