he Street Music Institute (IMJ), a community of street musicians based in Depok, West Java, held on Tuesday auditions for street musicians to obtain a card that would allow them to legally perform at various establishments.
IMJ founder Andi Malewa said that street musicians who passed the audition would be granted the so-called Support Performer Card (Supercard), or a card that would let them freely perform in public open spaces, cafes, mall, hotels and other places from which they are usually banned by Public Order Agency officers.
"Until [Tuesday] afternoon, about 70 street musicians from the Greater Jakarta area have registered for the audition,” Andi said on Tuesday as quoted by tribunnews.com.
This program, which was initiated by the IMJ, is part of the Culture and Education Ministry’s efforts to reach out to street musicians in Greater Jakarta, he added.
Andi said that the institute would select musicians based on their behavior, attitude and musical skills. (cal)
