he Indonesian Flight Navigation Service Institution (LPPNPI) or AirNav Indonesia has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to manage flight navigation services at 28 airports across the country.
“The MoU relates to technical operation, human resources and financing. AirNav Indonesia will handle flight navigation [services] at 28 airports,” said AirNav president director Novie Riyanto as reported by tribunnews.com on Thursday.
Under a decree of the Air Transportation Director General issued in 2015, AirNav is required to take over the navigation service of airports in the country, which are currently managed by the directorate general, regional administrations and private companies.
Therefore, the MoU document was also signed by the directorate general, representatives of regional administrations and private companies.
Novie stressed that the takeover of flight navigation was aimed to improve safety and efficiency of flight management in airports.
To begin, AirNav will assess the conditions of the 28 airports to make sure that the navigation services fulfill the requirements of existing standards and regulations, Novie added.
Currently, there are 17 airports with navigation services handled by the Air Transportation Directorate General, eight airports by regional administrations and three airports by private companies. (bbn).
