ice President Jusuf Kalla’s daughter Chairani Kalla reported Sylvester Matutina, the head of Basuki “Ahok” Tjahja Purnama’s supporter group Merah Putih Solidarity (Solmet), to the police on Monday for alleged defamation against her father.

Chairani Jusuf Kalla and her mother have hired dozens of lawyers from Advokat Peduli Kebangsaan (Lawyers who Care for the Nation) to handle the legal process, according to Muhammad Ihsan, one of the lawyers.

“This is an incredible act of defamation. Instead of giving a speech to the public, Sylvester should report Kalla to the lawmakers if [she suspects] he has done something that is against the law, Ihsan said.

According to Ihsan, Sylvester delivered a speech saying that Indonesians were poor because of people like Jusuf Kalla who had become corrupt and nepotistic to make their families even richer. Ihsan added that Sylvester also said that Kalla had exploited sectarian sentiment to help Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno win the Jakarta gubernatorial election.

“Sylvester did not only hurt Kalla’s family, but also the community and organizations that support Kalla,” Ihsan said.
