Man fails to steal alms, suffers losses

A man suffered losses after allegedly failing to steal money from a mosque’s charity box in Pamulang, South Tangerang, when he left behind his belongings when he fled the scene.

n unidentified man suffered losses after allegedly failing to steal money from a mosque’s charity box in Pamulang, South Tangerang, when he left behind his belongings when he fled the scene.

The man’s belongings, a big and small pair of pliers, a fishing bag and a backpack, were worth up to Rp 1 million (US$75), South Tangerang Police criminal investigation department head Adj. Comr. Ahmad Alexander said on Monday.

"We checked the crime scene but found nothing stolen. According to the mosque caretaker, the perpetrator fled and left behind his property," said Ahmad as quoted by kompas.com, referring to the caretaker of Al-Hidayah Mosque.

The unidentified man failed to steal the money because the caretaker interrupted him.

No sharp weapons or firearms were found in the perpetrator’s bags, Ahmad added.

The mosque is equipped with CCTV, enabling the caretaker to monitor the mosque at all times. (wnd)
