KPU starts preparations of simultaneous regional elections

he General Elections Commission (KPU) has begun preparations for the third simultaneous regional elections with a ceremony at its headquarters in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Several representatives from the government ministries and institutions as well as security forces and political parties attended the ceremony at KPU headquarters.
“[The election] is divided into two parts, namely preparations and implementation. We started preparations today, while the implementation will start in September,” KPU chairman Arief Budiman said in his speech.
He added that the implementation stages included dissemination, recruitment of field officers, updating the data of voters and processing of the candidacies.
“Many regional administrators asked if we really want to hold the elections [next year]. With this [ceremony] we hope that they will start allocating the budget for the elections,” Arief said.
On June 27 next year, 171 regions will participate in simultaneous regional elections.
Among the 171 regions are 17 provinces, 39 cities and 115 regencies. (yon)
