ot air balloons have disrupted electricity supplies in Wonosobo, Central Java, as four of them got stuck in high-voltage power lines on Tuesday.
The incident forced state-owned electricity company PLN to cut the electricity supply to nearby areas to allow workers to remove the balloons from the electricity lines.
“We needed between three and five hours to remove the balloons from the electricity lines. It caused power cuts to three areas: Wonosobo, Dieng and Wadaslintang,” PLN said in a statement on Tuesday.
Three of the unmanned balloons were hanging in the electricity networks of Wonosobo-Merica, Wonosobo-Temanggung and Wonosobo-Secang, while the fourth got stuck on the electricity tower of Wonosobo-Wadaslintang.
The balloons were removed by PLN workers who were on duty during the Idul Fitri holidays, according to the statement.
After the incident, the local government prohibited individuals and institutions from flying such balloons. “The people are expected to abide by the prohibition for the sake of the common interest of the people,” said the PLN statement. (bbn)
