View all search resultshe Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will soon send House of Representatives Speaker Setya Novanto a letter notifying him it has named him a graft suspect, a commissioner has said.
KPK spokesperson Febri Diansyah said that as in other cases, the antigraft body had to send a notification to any person it named a suspect.
“We will send the letter this week,” he told The Jakarta Post via text message on Tuesday.
Setya, who is also the Golkar Party chairman, has been named a suspect in the e-ID graft case, which reportedly caused Rp 2.3 trillion (US$172.82 million) in state losses.
Following his being named a suspect, Setya sent a letter to the KPK in which he asked the commission to provide him with a suspect-notification letter. “We have received the letter and we will analyze it,” said Febri, adding that the letter was received on Tuesday afternoon.
In a press conference on Monday, KPK commissioner Agus Rahardjo said Setya was named a suspect for allegedly having played a key role together with businessman Andi Agustinus, aka Andi Narogong, in planning a scheme to swindle funds earmarked for the e-ID procurement project.
The KPK has named four other individuals suspects in the e-ID graft case. They are two senior officials at the Home Ministry, Irman and Sugiarto; House member Miryam S. Haryani from the Hanura Party; and Andi. (ecn/ebf)
