The Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI) in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia held the Indonesia Week and Nite 2017 over the weekend as part of a series of events to celebrate Indonesia’s 72nd Independence Day.

Indonesian Consul General in Kota Kinabalu, Akhmad Daya Handasah Irfan, expected the event to open up economic opportunities and strengthen cooperation between Indonesia and Sabah.

Through the event, the Sabahans could learn about the various cultures of the Indonesian communities who reside in the eastern Malaysian state, including the Bugis, Florinese, Javanese, Buton and Batak communities.

The festival also showcased the richness of Indonesia’s culinary heritage and other cultural products such as traditional dances and movies.

The event coordinator, Hendro Retno Wulan said the event was held to celebrate the 72nd anniversary of Indonesian Independence.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Kota Kinabalu mayor, representatives from Brunei Darussalam and Japan, businesspeople, entrepreneurs and locals.
