The Jakarta Bina Marga road agency has pledged to revamp old footbridges throughout Jakarta following the collapse of a few bridges.

On Friday, a pedestrian bridge on Jl. Daan Mogot, West Jakarta, collapsed after a tanker hit the side of it.

“We will make a list of which pedestrian bridges need renovating,” said agency head Yusmada Faizal on Monday as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com.

According to Yusmada, pedestrian bridges and sidewalks that are in the most need of repairs are in Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, and Daan Mogot, West Jakarta.

Several pedestrian bridges in the areas are too low as a result of road overlay done by the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry in 2014.

The 2017 city budget allocation for upgrading footbridges is Rp 10 billion (US$750,000).

Bidding for the bridge projects are ongoing. The projects are expected to start this year, Yusmada added.

Last year, a pedestrian bridge in Pasar Minggu collapse during strong wind and heavy rain. (wnd)
