uthorities are investigating drug convict Bambang Budianto, who is serving an eight-year sentence at Blora Penitentiary in Central Java, for using his daughter as a courier to distribute 25 grams of crystal methamphetamine, or crystal meth, the Central Java Narcotics Agency (BNNP) has revealed at an Aug. 1 press conference in Semarang, Central Java.

Bambang reportedly gave his daughter YAI, 41, instructions via mobile phone, instructing her how to deliver the drugs through a travel service.

“This is a new delivery method we have uncovered in Central Java. Before, drug dealers sent their packages by courier, the postal service or fast-shipping services,” Central Java BNNP head Brig. Gen. Tri Agus Heru Prasetyo said in Semarang on Tuesday.

Tri added that Bambang had been convicted three times on drug charges. He was first sentenced to four years in prison in 2004. In 2007, he was implicated in the same case and was sentenced to two years and nine months. The punishment did not appear to deter Bambang, said Tri, because in 2013, he committed a drug crime again and was sentenced to eight years' imprisonment.

Bambang continued drug dealing operations from inside the prison, managing drug distribution and using his own daughter as a courier, said Tri.

The Central Java BNNP team arrested YAI at noon last Friday as she was receiving a package containing crystal meth from a travel service on Jl. Sumodarasono 2, Blora. The package originated in Semarang.

The narcotics agency said YAI had received crystal meth packages on two occasions and distributed it to drug addicts in the province's city of Blora. (ebf).
