The newly opened interchange in Semanggi needs more traffic signs, an official has said.
The Jakarta Transportation Agency has been analyzing traffic patterns on the Simpang Susun Semanggi (Semanggi interchange), which has been open to the public since last week.
Based on its assessment, the roads require more traffic signs, the agency's head, Andri Yansyah, said, adding that drivers often hesitated before choosing which direction to go.
"Yesterday, we implemented a system in which we closed and open the road because many drivers went the wrong way. Basically, the road signs must be improved," Andri said as quoted by beritajakarta.com on Wednesday.
Responding to the issue, he said, the agency has contacted the Jakarta Police traffic unit to ask for a recommendation letter.
With the letter, the Jakarta administration can ask for additional traffic signs from the contractor of the interchange.
"Traffic signs are beyond our authority," he said. (agn)
