T

he Jakarta administration plans to celebrate Indonesia’s 72nd Independence Day by showcasing arts and culture activities at City Hall.

The administration will present, among other events, the Keroncong Tugu orchestra, gambus Arabian music, a marawis percussion ensemble, Lenong Betawi comedy theater, a national song performance and a shadow puppet show. The performances will be held from Aug.16 to 19.

“Gratitude can be expressed through this showcase of creativity, arts and culture. All types of the nation’s culture will be presented here,” Jakarta Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat said on Tuesday, as quoted by tempo.co.

On Wednesday night, City Hall will hold a performance of national songs and the next day, all civil servants must join the Independence Day ceremony at the National Monument (Monas), followed by a gambus performance from various cities and regencies.

On Friday, the administration will hold an arts and cultural appreciation night for young people. (wnd)
