resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is scheduled to attend the Pesona Parahyangan Independence Carnival as the main endorser of the event, which is expected to become a new tourism icon for West Java’s provincial capital, Bandung.
“The President will become the main endorser of the event as part of an effort to promote tourism in Bandung and its neighboring areas,” said Tourism Minister Arief Yahya,
The carnival will take place on Aug. 26 and is part of the country’s 72nd Independence Day celebration.
Read also: Bandung unveils China Town tourism spotAmong the noted curators who will take part in the event are Aat Suratin, Dynan Fariz and Heru Mataya, who will collaborate to perform various cultural expressions from across the archipelago.
Aat Suratan, who also serves as chairman of the curators, said the event would involve organizers of several other noted carnivals, like the Jember Fashion Carnival, Solo Batik Carnival and Tomohon International Flower Festival.
“We will include various traditional communities in West Java; about 20 will be involved,” said Aat as reported by Antara.
Meanwhile, Bandung Mayor Ridwan “Emil” Kamil said the theme of the event was diversity, adding that it has his administration’s full support.
“I believe that the Saturday event will be full of festivities. We will decorate selected areas [designated for the carnival],” Emil said.
The Pesona Parahyangan Independence Carnival will start from Simpang Lima and pass Hotel Savoy Homans and Merdeka Building, before ending at Bandung Park. (bbn)
