Nike bazaar at Grand Indonesia shopping mall in Central Jakarta, which started on Sunday, ended in chaos on Tuesday, with thousands of people flocking to the venue, trampling on shoes and destroying a promotional banner.
One of the bazaar's visitors, Fernando Simon, uploaded a video on YouTube, showing the commotion.
Shoe boxes could be seen strewn across the floor, with people stepping all over them while looking for discounted products in their size.
Tribunnews.com reported that shoppers also broke through a large banner as they barged into the event.
Amid the chaos, organizers were forced to limit the number of people entering the bazaar, which offered discounts of up to 90 percent.
For example, Vapor Superfly IIU FG 5 shoes, which cost Rp 4.9 million (US$367), were being sold for only Rp 469,000.
Mercurial Vapor VII FG shoes, which previously went for Rp 2.1 million, were sold for Rp 219,000, while the Rp 2,3 million WMNS Air Maz was discounted to Rp 239,000.
Holders of Bank Mandiri credit card received further discounts with a zero percent installment scheme. (cal)
