A

cafe musician Kaifu Loangadi, also known as Kevin, 26, was arrested by police in South Jakarta for allegedly growing marijuana inside his house in Kebagusan, Pasar Minggu.

Head of South Jakarta Police narcotics unit  Comr. Vivick Tjangkung said Kevin was arrested after a tip-off from local resident in his neighborhood, who claimed to have seen him growing marijuana in plastic pots.

“This arrest is possible thanks to residents who had reported the violation to the police so that our personnel could respond it quickly. We have confiscated one pot with five marijuana stems, which are around one-meter high and one-month old,” said Vivick as quoted by Tribunnews.com at the South Jakarta Police headquarters on Monday.

Kevin claimed during an interrogation that he had smoked marijuana for four years. He told the police he planted the marijuana for his personal use .

Kevin also gave other details that he first bought a package of marijuana worth Rp 50,000 (US$3.75) from a friend that he would then use as seeds.

“We are still investigating further on whether he has once marketed marijuana trees he has cultivated,” said Vivick.

During the raid, Vivick said that police also confiscated 1.36 grams of marijuana Kevin stuffed inside a doll.

Kevin will be charged with Article 111 (1) of Law No.35/2009 on narcotics, which carries a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison. (yon/ebf)
