n a bid to ease traffic congestion on toll roads, state-owned toll road operator PT Jasa Marga has decided to initiate on Friday an integrated payment system along the busy Jakarta-Bogor-Ciawi (Jagorawi) toll road and to eliminate payments at the Cibubur Utama and Cimanggis Utama tollgates.

With the new system, toll road fees will be set equally from the Cawang entrance in East Jakarta to the Bogor or Ciawi entrance in West Java. The fee will be determined based on vehicle type, with the fee for group one vehicles set at Rp 6,500 (49 US cents), while the fee for the fifth group is set at Rp 19,500.

Jasa Marga spokesperson Dwimawan Heru said the decision was taken partly in response to the growing number of Bogor residents who commuted to Jakarta for work on a daily basis.

“The transaction capacity at the Cibubur Utama and the Cimanggis Utama tollgates is often overwhelmed, particularly during peak hours, creating a long queue,” Jasa Marga spokesperson Dwimawan Heru said in a statement on Tuesday.

He expected that eliminating more payment points would decrease the travel time for commuters. (fac)
