akarta deputy governor-elect Sandiaga Uno has said he will meet with leaders of Go-Jek and Grab, two providers of smartphone-based transportation services, to talk about severe traffic congestion around Palmerah Station in West Jakarta during rush hours.

The traffic jams happened because a lot of app-based ojek (motorcycle taxi) drivers stopped on the street while waiting for passengers, Sandiaga said.

“Later I will talk with Nadiem Makarim and Anthony Tan,” Sandiaga said on Tuesday as quoted by kompas.com, referring to the Go-Jek CEO and Grab CEO and co-founder, respectively.

He added that the administration should improve the transportation infrastructure and integrate public transportation facilities to better serve passengers.

Cakung Station in East Jakarta, for instance, should be integrated with Pulogebang Terminal, because passengers could travel between those places by walking, Sandiaga said.

The Jakarta governor-elect Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga will soon take office, replacing the current governor, Djarot Saiful Hidayat.

Their inauguration is set to be conducted in mid-October. (cal)
