ity authorities seized nine rare animals at alternative healing center Ki Mijil Pamungkas in Pancoran Mas, Depok, West Java, on Thursday.

They seized one saltwater crocodile, one Java hawk-eagle, one changeable hawk-eagle, two peacocks and four yellow-crested cockatoos.

“All of them were directly taken to the Taman Safari Indonesia conservation park in Cisarua [in Bogor, West Java]. The condition of those animals was good enough,” said the operational head of the Jakarta Security and Law Enforcement of the Environment and Forestry Center (BPPH LHK), Joko Widodo, as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com.

The owner of the animals, Susilo, however, was not detained because he did not commercialize the animals, Joko said. The animals were reportedly given as gifts from Susilo’s patients for curing them.

Susilo, who took care of the rare animals for around three years, had long wanted to hand them over to authorities but he did not know how to go about the process, Joko said.

Law No.5/1990 on natural resources and ecosystem conservation stipulates that seized animals cannot be kept privately without being granted permission and without going through a legal process, Joko added. (wnd)
