ecent electricity problems plaguing Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in East Jakarta were reportedly due to the deteriorating conditions of its runway, according to an official.
The airfield is scheduled for renovation, Halim executive general manager Col. Abdul Rasyid said on Tuesday,
"We have made programs to revitalize a few things that need to change,” Rasyid said as quoted by kompas.com.
Halim could not be used for six hours due to problems with the runway lights on Monday night. Four flights were cancelled as a result.
Abdul explained that at the moment, some lights were working normally. Nonetheless, such conditions could still disrupt flight safety.
Rasyid explained that the lights started to dim at around 7.30 p.m. on Monday, but they were fixed and back online by 1.30 a.m. on Tuesday.
He assured it would not happen again.
On July 28, a section of the airport’s runway was reportedly damaged by a wide-body aircraft taking off in the morning. (agn)
