T

he Jakarta administration has yet to decide on the city’s 2018 provincial minimum wage (UMP), with city officials still in intense discussions over the matter.

Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno said the administration's decision would be fair to both sides; to workers and companies

"I will report to the governor [Anies Baswedan] within the next 24 hours. The decision should, at least, be a win-win solution,” Sandiaga said at City Hall in Central Jakarta as quoted by kompas.com on Tuesday.

By Tuesday afternoon, Sandiaga and related official had still not reached a decision on the minimum wage.

"We are trying to find an innovative solution, so that the demands of workers [...] can be fulfilled," he added.

The city’s wage council had already proposed a minimum wage of Rp 3.6 million (US$265.42) or Rp 3.9 million. The first figure was proposed by employers, while the latter came from labor unions. (agn)
