T

he West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Police are digging up information about recent terrorist activity in the mountainous area of Mawu Rite in Bima from five indivuduals who are suspected to have connections with a terrorist cell in the area.

The five were apprehended in the Penatoi area in Bima's Mpunda district on Tuesday evening following a shootout with police’s Densus 88 counterterrorism squad personnel in Mawu Rite on Monday that killed two suspected terrorists, identified as Amir alias Dance and Yaman.

“Five people have been apprehended and are currently being questioned at Bima Police headquarters,” NTB Police deputy chief Sr. Comr. Tajuddin said on Wednesday.

The police are also investigating whether the five have any connections to the two dead terrorist suspects, who were members of the terrorist group Jamaah Ansharut Daulah.

"We are still investigating [the five individuals'] involvement," Tajuddin added.

Meanwhile, the police continue to hunt for two other suspected terrorists who managed to escape the Densus 88 squad during the shootout on Monday.

"We believe the two are still [hiding] somewhere nearby [Mawu Rite]," Tajuddin said.

The dead suspects were also believed to be behind the shootings in Bima on Sept. 11, during which two police officers, identified as Chief Brig. Jainal Abidin of Bima Police’s Sabhara rapid response unit and Chief Brig. Gafur of Langgudu Police in Bima, were shot in separate locations. (ipa)
