J

akarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno has launched a shoemaking competition for micro and small enterprises (MSEs) in search of the most suitable office shoes for him at the Jakarta Creative Hub in Central Jakarta on Friday afternoon.

“The shoes must be heat resistant, waterproof and can be used for blusukan [impromptu visits] to a lot of places, including muddy areas,” Sandiaga said as quoted by kompas.com, adding that the shoes should be made in accordance with Jakarta Governor Regulation No. 23/2016 on uniforms. The regulation stipulates that the office shoes should be black loafers.

There are three categories for the MSEs to join the competition: shoe design, production and design and shoe box design.

The best 20 participants will be trained by the owner of a local shoe brand.

The registration for the competition will officially be open from Nov. 10 until Dec. 10, while the competition itself will last until Feb. 14 next year.

Since his inauguration on Oct. 16, Sandiaga has repeatedly worn running shoes to the office, which is not in keeping with the prevailing gubernatorial regulations.

He claimed that running shoes were most comfortable for the high level of activity his job demanded. (vny)
