akarta City Council members are questioning Governor Anies Baswedan's plan to recruit 73 professionals who will make up the Governor’s Team for Development Acceleration (TGUPP) next year.
As reported by kompas.com, discussions about the TGUPP at the City Council building remained heated on Tuesday, especially regarding the number of professionals on the team.
"To manage the republic [of Indonesia], we need fewer than 73 team members. Why would we need 73 for Jakarta alone?" said Gembong Warsono of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P).
Ashraf Ali of the Golkar Party concurred, saying the team was indeed needed as it comprised five divisions that would help the governor make policies, however the number of team members should be reviewed.
Another PDI-P councillor, Jhonny Simanjuntak, who also leads Commission C overseeing finance, affirmed that his commission disagreed with the proposed number of team members.
"Please decrease the number. How effective will the team be [with that number]? Commission C thinks an evaluation should be conducted," Jhonny said.
The increase of personnel for the TGUPP will cost Rp 28 billion (US$2.15 million) in taxpayer money, 31 times the current budget with only 15 team members.
Jakarta administrative bureau chief Budi Utomo said the administration had referred to Gubernatorial Regulation No. 411/2016 on the salary of TGUPP members.
"About the number of personnel, we are still discussing whether all 73 are eligible for the team," Budi said. (yon)
