akarta Governor Anies Baswedan revealed on Wednesday that he had signed a new regulation on the controversial Governor's Team for Development Acceleration (TGUPP), enabling him to recruit 73 team members, as proposed in the city’s 2018 draft budget.

Many parties, including the Jakarta Council, had criticized the team’s large membership and its budget of Rp 28 billion (US$2.15 million). The current budget is Rp 2.3 billion, with 15 members.

"[I signed the regulation] last night," Anies said at City Hall on Wednesday, as quoted by kompas.com.

Anies refused to reveal the names of prospective TGUPP members. "There will be a recruitment process," he said.

The previous TGUPP regulation capped the number of members at a maximum of 15.

TGUPP head Muhammad Yusuf said, 30 TGUPP member positions would be allocated for officials from five mayoralties and one regency, each of which would have five seats on the team.

On Tuesday, Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno said he and the governor as well as the TGUPP members would all work at the deputy governor’s office, in order to facilitate coordination.

"So, the deputy governor’s office will be remodeled into a co-working space, where anyone can sit and work," he said.

"Everything will be decided in that room […]; it will be an open working system," he added. (dis)
