akarta Governor Anies Baswedan said members of the proposed Governor's Team for Development Acceleration (TGUPP) would be paid according to their qualifications.

"I think it's too simple to mention just one number because there will be different salaries depending on qualifications," Anies said on Thursday.

However, Anies refused to elaborate on the details of the planned TGUPP members’ salary.

He emphasized that those appointed to the team must be competent in their field. “We want them to give direction to the governor and deputy governor, not the other way around,” he said.

City councillor from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) faction, William Yani, was among councillors who questioned the salary of TGUPP members in a plenary session on the deliberation of 2018 draft city budget.

"There is no explanation as to why a TGUPP member should be paid Rp 24 million a month," William said.

The TGUPP was proposed with a budget allocation of Rp 28 billion in the 2018 draft budget to pay 73 members. On the website apbd.jakarta.go.id, 23 people were proposed to be paid Rp 24.9 million for 13 months, bringing the total budget to Rp 7.4 billion. Meanwhile, there is another budget for 37 TGUPP members who will be paid the same salary totaling up to Rp 11.9 billion.

On the website, the proposal showed there would also be 14 chairpersons on the TGUPP who would be paid Rp 27.9 million each, totaling Rp 5 billion.

In addition to the pay, the rest of the funds are to be used for operational purposes. (cal/dis)
