Fourteen people have been injured in a head-on collision early Monday morning on Cawang toll road in East Jakarta.

Jakarta Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono said the victims had been taken to the Indonesian Christian University (UKI) Hospital in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta.

"The accident happened in the morning at around 4 a.m.," Argo said in a press statement on Monday. The accident involved two vans: a Toyota Avanza traveling from Cikampek in West Java and a Toyota Kijang en route to Cikampek.

"The Avanza driver was allegedly exhausted and the car drifted to hit the lane divider, and then over into the oncoming lane to collide with the Toyota Kijang, which was driving in the opposite direction," he said, adding that the Toyota Kijang veered off to hit the shoulder barrier.

The scene after the collision was recorded in a video and went viral when it was posted on social media. Several victims could be seen lying on the road in the footage, with both cars having suffered severe damage. (dis)
