“We will make it mandatory. We will draft more detailed regulations that will integrate the data from emission tests and car registration centers,” Anies said in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta on Sunday.
Anies added that the administration would coordinate with the Jakarta Police to implement the plan as part of an effort to tackle air pollution in the metropolis.
"We will coordinate with the Vehicle Document Registration Center (Samsat) belonging to the Police. If all [vehicles] pass the tests, we could make Jakarta's air cleaner," Anies said.
Meanwhile, Jakarta Environment Agency head Isnawa Adji said his agency had long proposed making the emission tests an obligation.
Isnawa said his agency would establish an e-test emission system that integrated data recorded from the emission test centers with the Jakarta Smart City program. (dis/dmr)
