he city's policies for reducing the number of people with community-related or social problems (PMKS) have been successful with Jakarta Social Affairs Agency data showing that the figure has decreased by 45 percent this year, agency head Masrokhan has said.
Entering the third week of December, the agency has taken 8,143 people considered to have PMKS into custody, a decrease from 14,808 people in 2016.
During an event in preparation for Christmas and New Year's Eve on Wednesday, Masrokhan said the agency's success in dealing with people with PMKS had been realized through cooperation with several parties, including the city's Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) and the Transportation Agency.
The the city's policies, such as surveillance of 276 locations, providing guidance and training for people with PMKS in social houses and returning them to their hometowns had also contributed to reducing the number of people with PMKS, Masrokhan said.
For the 2018 to 2022 period, he said his agency would map out which areas were prone to PMKS. The areas cover 42 districts in the capital and 318 locations.
For Christmas and New Year's Eve, he said his agency would dispatch a taskforce of 425 social treatment, observation and control (P3S) personnel to five areas in Jakarta to prevent people with PMKS from roaming the streets. (rdi)
