irport train operator PT Railink has announced that it will kick off a trial operation for the new railway link between Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten and several stations in Jakarta on Tuesday, Dec. 26.
Railink president director Heru Kuswanto said recently that the trial run would take place from Dec. 26 to Jan. 1, before going into full operation on Jan. 2. During the trial run, passengers will be charged Rp 30,000 (US$2.2) per trip.
“Starting from Jan. 2, each person will pay Rp 70,000 until further notice,” Heru said as quoted by tribunnews.com. He added the fare will go up to Rp 100,000 per trip.
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is set to inaugurate the airport train on Jan. 2. For the time being, the trains will only stop at Soekarno-Hatta, Sudirman Baru and Batu Ceper stations, but will eventually also stop at Manggarai and Duri stations.
The train cars, produced by state-owned company PT Industri Kereta Api (INKA), are equipped with air conditioning, televisions, charging ports, information boards and bathrooms, while the stations are fitted with vending machines, tapping gates, escalators, ATMs, waiting lounges, commercial areas, meeting rooms, bathrooms and prayer rooms.(vny)
