tate-owned toll road operator Jasa Marga, in collaboration with the Jakarta Police, set up contraflow lanes on Saturday to break up heavy traffic on the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road during the Christmas and New Year’s Eve holiday season.

Jasa Marga spokesman Dwimawan Heru said traffic jams had occurred especially near the kilometer 33 and kilometer 39 rest areas along the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road toward Cikampek.

“To break up the congestion, Jasa Marga and the Jakarta Police have maintained a contraflow traffic scheme from kilometer 35 to kilometer 47 since 10.05 a.m.,” said Dwimawan in a statement on Saturday.

Traffic density has been increasing since 10.00 a.m. on Saturday on several routes, such as the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road, the Cikunir-Bekasi road and the East Bekasi-West Cikarang route.

Moreover, a line of vehicles reaching up to 1 km has emerged at the Cikarang I main toll gate. Jasa Marga has prepared some anticipatory measures to manage traffic during the Christmas and year-end holiday season this year.

Aside from implementing contraflow traffic, Jasa Marga has increased the number of toll booths and suspended construction projects on toll roads. (roi)
