T

he family of former Jakarta governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama will be visiting him on Christmas Day at the National Police's Mobile Brigade Command Headquarters (Mako Brimob) in Depok, West Java, said Ahok's lawyer Rolas Sitinjak.

"His family is coming to Mako. It will likely be during visiting hours," Rolas told The Jakarta Post on Monday, referring to Ahok's wife Veronica Tan and their two, sons Nicholas Sean Purnama and Daud Albeneer Purnama. The family planned to observe a moment of silence together.

Ahok's sister has also chosen to stay in Jakarta rather than traveling back to her hometown on Belitung Island, so she could also visit Ahok.

It is the second year that Ahok will not be traveling to his Belitung hometown to celebrate Christmas: Last year, he was campaigning for his reelection amid charges of blasphemy.

Ahok was convicted and has been living behind bars since early May. It has been reported that he will receive a remission on Dec. 25, as he has been imprisoned for six months and maintained good behaviour. (wit)
