orkers at the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) in South Jakarta were allowed to enter the building and to continue with their duties at 2:20 p.m. on Monday, around two hours after a mezzanine floor in the building collapsed.
"They may enter the bourse’s Tower 2, however they can't get through the collapsed mezzanine. Security officers have been assigned to guard the area," Kebayoran Baru Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Samsurijal said at the scene.
The police taped off the area and officers escorted the workers into the building.
Officials from several agencies, such as the Indonesian Red Cross and the Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency, also stood by to help evacuate victims.
At least 72 people were injured in the accident and they have been admitted to four separate hospitals.
Separately, the Financial Services Authority has stated that the incident did not affect trading at the bourse. (fac)
