akarta Traffic Police have conducted a study regarding the controversial closure of Jl. Jatibaru Raya in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, to accommodate street vendors, and have found that the street should be reopened to ease traffic congestion.

Since Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan closed the street on Dec. 22, traffic congestion had worsened along several streets, such as on Jl. Fachrudin between Tanah Abang and Tomang in West Jakarta, and vice versa, the police said.

“We monitor those streets every day and have concluded that the street should be reopened,” Jakarta Traffic Police Sr. Comr. Halim Pagarra said on Thursday as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com.

Halim said the police would deliver their recommendation to the city administration on Friday.

He said the street should be used for vehicles, not street vendors, and that the city administration should find another place for the hawkers to conduct their business.(cal)
