ecent flooding from the Ciliwung River has disrupted the distribution of clean water to city-owned water operator customers in Depok since Monday.
Pollution levels from water sourced from the Ciliwung River have not returned to normal conditions as of Wednesday, Depok PDAM Tirta Asasta director Sulaeman said.
The flooding has also overwhelmed the company’s pumps at their water processing plant, causing the pumps to be clogged with mud.
Sulaeman said even after the cleanup of the pumps, the Ciliwung River’s current turbidity levels (NTU) were too high to be processed.
“As of this morning, the Ciliwung River’s turbidity was over 1,000 NTU, while our processing plant could only handle a maximum of 600 NTU. This caused a decrease in clean water production,” explained Sulaeman as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com.
Sulaeman said they were currently restoring water quality for customers in Margonda district, whereas water quality has not yet been restored in Tapos and Cimanggis districts.
Yosi, a customer located in Sukmajaya, Depok, said water flow had been restored since Tuesday at a reduced rate. However, on Tuesday evening the water became murky again. (jlm)
