olice have busted an alleged prostitution and human trafficking ring on Jl. Kalimalang in Bekasi, West Java, after receiving reports from concerned citizens.
A suspect had been arrested on Saturday at a hotel after police conducted a stakeout, Bekasi Police crime division chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Dedy Supriadi said on Monday.
Dedy said the suspect had been seen with two women.
“After an investigation, we found that the two women were prostituted online via Facebook, where their services were offered for Rp 1 million (US$73) to Rp 1,5 million,” said Dedy, as quoted by kompas.com, adding that the suspect had admitted to running the illicit activity for six months.
Police are investigating the possibility of other suspects being involved in the ring.
The suspect has been charged under the Human Trafficking Law, which carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison. (jlm)
