A 7-year-old boy has died after being hit by a car being parked in North Kembangan, West Jakarta, on Saturday night.

The victim, identified as Muhammad Fitra Wansyah, sustained a head injury in the accident, and died after being admitted to Puri Indah Kembangan General Hospital. The victim’s brother, 3-year-old Muhammad Ilham, sustained injuries to his arm and leg, and has been discharged from the hospital.

The neighborhood chief Rohiman said on Monday that the two children were playing near a pick-up truck in front of the driver’s house when the incident occurred. “Both parties have settled the matter in a peaceful manner, and the victim’s family has shown acceptance,” said Rohiman as quoted by kompas.com.

Kembangan Police chief, Comr. Supriadi said the driver, identified as Abdul Rohman, was trying to park in reverse when he accidentally hit the truck around which the children were playing. Rohman had been detained by the Daan Mogot Police, “and we are still investigating the case,” he added.

The police have confiscated Rohman’s car, driver’s license and vehicle registration document. (jlm)
