T

he East Jakarta Police have named two people suspects in the collapse last week of pier-head formwork on the Bekasi-Cawang-Kampung Melayu (Becakayu) toll road, where construction was taking place.

One of the suspects is the chief executive officer of state-owned construction company Waskita Karya while the other is a supervisor for state-owned engineering and management consultancy Virama Karya.

East Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Tony Surya Putra said on Tuesday that the investigation revealed that the accident, which occurred near the Kebon Nanas toll gate in East Jakarta on Feb. 20, occurred due to human error.

“From witness accounts and crime scene investigation results, as well as explanations from construction experts, we named two people suspects,” Tony said as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com.

Last week, pier head formwork on the Becakayu toll road collapsed, injuring seven workers.

Investigation results indicate worker negligence. “Due to the negligence, the pier head collapsed and the result was a work accident,” Tony said. (wnd)
