he vice principal of SMA 1 Semarang state senior high school, Masrochan, says the school’s move to expel two students for allegedly bullying their juniors was justified. He said the violence committed by MAS, 18, and APH, 17, would not be tolerated.
“We have given suggestions as to which schools MAS and APH should move to,” Masrochan told The Jakarta Post on Thursday.
“Our principal, Ibu Endang Suyatmi Listyaningsih, has had to respond to questions raised by many parties in relation to this matter. We should have been focusing on preparing for the national exam, which will take place in April but instead, we have been made very busy with this case."

Masrochan said the two students were expelled for violating school rules and its code of ethics. “Their violations cover 130 points; hence, they have committed a serious violation."
MAS and APH reportedly physically abused their juniors while they took part in a basic training event.
Bintang Al Huda, an activist with the Setara Foundation Semarang child protection group, said the incident could not be disassociated from the tradition of physical punishment in basic training programs.
“School authorities must look at the problem comprehensively. There should be mediation,” Bintang said. (ebf)
