ice President Jusuf Kalla has received an award in the field of social sciences and humanities from Sebelas Maret University (UNS) in Surakarta, Central Java. The “Parasamya Anugraha Dharma Krida Baraya” award was bestowed on the leader in an open hearing of UNS’ academic senate to mark the 42nd anniversary of the university.
Accompanied by his wife, Mufidah Jusuf Kalla, the vice president arrived at the UNS campus on Monday at 9:45 a.m. Technology, Research and Higher Education Minister Muhammad Nasir, Communications and Information Minister Rudiantara and Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono also attended the ceremony.
Kalla stated that he highly appreciated the award. Working in the field of social affairs and humanities was obligatory for all human beings, as they should continuously strive to achieve peace, he went on.
Kalla told the audience that he had just arrived from a work trip to Afghanistan, a country where people continued to live in conflict. The situation was similar in Syria, Yemen and other countries in the Middle East.
“We should be grateful that Indonesia has so many differences, yet we can create unity and live in harmony. It’s really incredible,” said Kalla.
UNS rector Ravik Karsidi said Kalla deserved the “Parasamya Anugraha Dharma Krida Baraya”, the university’s highest award in the social sciences and humanities.
He said the award was UNS’ appreciation of Kalla’s leadership in creating peace and harmony among religious communities in Indonesia and his outstanding works with the Indonesian Red Cross. (ebf)
