akarta Police plan to conduct ahead of the fasting month of Ramadhan, which will start mid-May, raids on locations believed to be storing firearms and explosives.
“We want to [prevent] cases of violence involving such weapons,” Jakarta Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono said on Tuesday as quoted by kompas.com.
He added that the raids would be conducted over 15 days, starting Monday.
Some 650 officers will be deployed from the Jakarta Police headquarters as well as subdistrict precincts.
They will focus on known manufacturers and sellers of weapons and their spare parts, bullets and rubber bullets, as well as owners of firearms and air guns.
These include airports, related workshops and stores, ports and warehouses believed to be storing firearms and chemicals to make explosives.
“We will also conduct raids in places allegedly used to market those weapons,” Argo added. (wnd)
