A

police officer was found dead in the driver’s seat of a sedan on Jl. Kampung Utan in Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, on Monday.

“There’s a possibility that the officer might have committed suicide, but we’re still investigating the case,” said South Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Indra Jafar on Tuesday, according to kompas.com.

“We didn’t find any bruises or injuries on his body. He allegedly died of carbon monoxide poisoning,” Indra said.

The officer’s body was found in front of his boarding house by a passerby named Suhendar at around 1:30 p.m.

“According to Suhendar, the car’s engine was still running [when he found the officer]. He approached and attempted to wake him up but failed,” Indra added. “Suhendar said he saw a water hose in the car that was apparently connected to the car’s exhaust pipe.”

The victim’s friend, Irman Hadi, said he had talked to him several hours before the latter was found dead. “[He] asked me where he could find a shop that sells water hoses,” Irman added.

The boarding house owner, Suwartini, told wartakota.tribunnews.com that the officer had been renting a room there since April 29.

Suwartini said the victim had told her that he was a police officer from East Kalimantan who had been transferred to Jakarta. (vla)
