J

akarta motorists have been warned to prepare for increases in parking fees following Wednesday’s tariff hike on the Jakarta Outer Ring Road (JORR).

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno expressed support for the JORR tariff hike recently announced by the Indonesia Toll Road Authority (BPTJ), while reminding citizens about the planned increases in parking fees and the implementation of the electronic road pricing (ERP) system.

“We hope that the increased [JORR] toll tariff won’t affect the cost of living too much, as we will also apply the ERP next year,” Sandiaga said as reported by kompas.com, adding that the increase was in line with the city administration’s goal to reduce the number of private vehicles on roads.

BPTJ recently announced that it would charge higher tariffs JORR toll gates starting on Wednesday at 12 a.m.

Group I car users will be charged Rp 15,000 (US$1.07), while Group II and III drivers of trucks and buses will be required to pay Rp 22,500. The largest category of vehicles, Group IV and V, will be charged Rp 30,000.

The current tariff for Group I users is at Rp 9,500, Group II at Rp 11,500, Group III at Rp 15,500, Group IV at Rp 19,000 and Group V at Rp 23,000.

Sandiaga said the administration would also increase parking fees throughout the city after its revision of Regional Regulation No. 16/2010 on parking taxes.

“We will also charge higher parking fees. Perhaps it will encourage more citizens to take public transportation,” he said. (ami)
