“I was told by the President himself, do not let the Asian Games fever burn out. You must make sure that the sporting fever burns red hot.” Sandiaga Uno said, adding that the goal of the event is to enliven the spirit of the 2018 Asian Games.
Jakarta will host the quadrennial multi-sport event alongside Palembang, South Sumatra on Aug. 18 through to Sept. 2, 2018.
The replica torch will be carried in all 44 districts and 267 subdistricts in Jakarta by six teams. Each team will consist of 11 people and 1 replica-torch bearer.
The torch-bearer will be someone who is either a community figure, an athlete or a recognized achiever in the community.
Sandiaga said, “We will have various runners carrying the torch, such as young people from a mosque, church, Buddhist temple and even young people from the military.”
The activity will start on July 1 in South Jakarta and East Jakarta, July 8 in West Jakarta and Central Jakarta and close on July 15 in North Jakarta and the Thousand Islands Regency. (acr)
