hile the simultaneous regional elections draw nearer, an independent election monitoring body says it has still been receiving reports on problems related to the distribution of election material.
Independent Election Monitoring Committee (KIPP) secretary-general Kaka Suminta said several regions reported that they had received ballots dispatched separately from their boxes.
“In East Java, some ballots were delivered inside used instant noodle and mineral water boxes,” said Kaka as quoted by tempo.co at Kode Inisiatif in Tebet, South Jakarta, on Sunday. He added that there had been similar cases in Cimahi, West Java.
According to the Election Logistics Guidebook, ballots, voter forms and other election material must be delivered inside a sealed ballot box.
Kaka added that in South Sumatra, voting invitations, known as C6 forms, had not yet been distributed, even though existing election regulations state that the forms must be completely distributed to voters three days prior to voting day.
“This means the distribution of the election material has not been running properly, making us question its security,” Kaka said. The Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) needs to work harder to fix the issues, he added. (dpk/ebf)
