Scott Derrickson, the director of Marvel’s Doctor Strange, has praised Joko Anwar’s horror movie, Pengabdi Setan.

Satan’s Slaves is a well-crafted, scary horror film from Indonesia,” Derrickson said on his Twitter account, @scottderrickson, referring to Pengabdi Setans English-language title.

He added that the movie, which stars Tara Basro, was a gem.

“Film festivals are all about discovering gems like this one.”

Joko expressed his delight at the praise, uploading the tweet to his Instagram account @jokoanwar along with a caption saying that the tweet had made him smile to himself.

“Coming from a director that I admire a lot, this really makes my day,” he said in reply to Derrickson’s tweet.
